Laser technology is used in dermatology for skin resurfacing provide a proven way to help reduce facial wrinkles and skin irregularities, age spots, acne scars, and other blemishes as well as tighten skin and balance tone. How does laser treatment work?

A laser delivers an intense burst of light on to the skin and this is of a single wavelength. Different cells in the skin absorb different wavelengths. So depending on what wavelength of light is emitted by the laser depends on what cell in the skin is targeted. The aim is to target only the problem cell and to leave the surrounding tissue unharmed. For instance blood cells absorb a certain wavelength and so a laser that emits this wavelength is able to treat vascular lesions.

How do I know which laser treatment is best for me?

Laser technology varies widely in how they act on your skin and the variety of laser solutions can make it difficult to know where to start when researching treatment.

What kinds of lasers are available at NSDL?

No one laser can treat all patients and all skin concerns. That’s the reason why there are many lasers available but at Northern Sydney Dermatology & Laser, however only medical grade lasers are used.

Fraxel® Fractional Laser Technology

Fractional Lasers break up the laser energy into thousands of tiny beams to treat only a fraction of the skin in the area, which reduces downtime. Fractional lasers can be ablative or non-ablative, and are used to treat a number of age-related blemishes. Northern Sydney Dermatology uses Fraxel® Fractional Laser Technology which is effective in the treatment of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles – like crow’s feet and brow lines
  • Surface scarring – erasing effects of acne and other scarring
  • Pigmentation – minimizing the appearance of age spots
  • Sun damage – helping heal dangerous skin damage
  • Actinic Keratosis (AK) – a common pre-cancerous skin condition

CO2RE by Candela

CO2 Lasers are generally ablative lasers used to treat scars, warts, wrinkles, and other deeper skin flaws. At NSDL we use the CO2RE by Candela. The CO2RE skin resurfacing treatment diminishes mild to moderate signs of aging such as sun spots, pigmentation and sagging skin.

Vbeam Perfecta by Candela

At Northern Sydney Dermatology & Laser, only medical grade lasers are used. The Vbeam Perfecta by Candela Pulsed-Dye Laser is a non-ablative laser that heats the skin and absorb pigments to reduce redness, hyperpigmentation, broken capillaries, and rosacea. This laser treatment is fast and also comfortable, due to the dynamic cooling method, or DCD. DCD delivers a cooling mist on to the skin just before the laser pulse is emitted. This mist helps to protect the skin to minimise side effects and increase comfort during treatment.

GentleMAX® Laser

Combining the GentleMAX® Laser and the Vbeam Perfecta by Candela enables us to offer multiple wavelengths of 595nm, 755nm and 1064nm. This unique combination of lasers allows us to effectively offer a range of services including removing unwanted leg and facial veins, fine lines, vascular lesions and pigmented lesions.

This laser treatment is fast and also comfortable, due to the dynamic cooling method, or DCD. DCD delivers a cooling mist on to the skin just before the laser pulse is emitted. This mist helps to protect the skin to minimise side effects and increase comfort during treatment.

IPL Treatments

IPL (intense pulsed light) treatments technically are not lasers but are often used to treat similar concerns as lasers, such as sun damage, vascular lesions, acne, rosacea, and hyperpigmentation.
