Erbium Laser 2940nm ProFractional
At NSDL, we offer the Erbium 2940nm laser (ProFractional), an advanced skin rejuvenation treatment designed to improve skin texture, tone, and overall quality. This fractional laser treatment is ideal for patients seeking significant skin improvements The ProFractional laser allows for deep resurfacing of the skin, addressing fine lines, wrinkles, and other skin concerns.
Why have laser treatments with a Dermatologist?
When it comes to laser treatments, the device is only part of the equation. Just like a master craftsman uses tools to create their best work, dermatologists combine advanced knowledge of skin histology with expert use of laser technologies to deliver superior results. This expertise ensures the best possible outcomes while minimising risks.
The device itself, such as the Erbium 2940nm laser (ProFractional), is merely a tool—it’s how it’s deployed that truly matters. A skilled dermatologist will thoroughly assess your skin, ensuring there are no underlying complications, and tailor the treatment to your skin’s unique needs. This is the key to achieving optimal results safely and effectively.
What is ProFractional Erbium 2940nm?
ProFractional Erbium 2940nm is a fractional ablative laser that targets the deeper layers of the skin to promote regeneration and collagen production. This laser removes microscopic layers of damaged skin to reveal fresh, smooth skin beneath, while leaving surrounding tissue intact for faster healing.
Ablative laser: The Erbium 2940nm wavelength is used to precisely remove the outer layers of damaged skin, promoting skin renewal.
This advanced fractional technology provides maximum results with adjustable downtime depending on the intensity of the treatment.
What can ProFractional Erbium treat?
The ProFractional Erbium 2940nm laser is used to treat a wide range of skin concerns, including:
Fine lines and wrinkles
Uneven skin tone and texture
Enlarged pores
Mild to moderate skin laxity
How does ProFractional Erbium work?
The ProFractional Erbium 2940nm laser delivers energy in fractional patterns, creating micro-injuries in the skin that promote healing and collagen production. The ablative wavelength of 2940nm allows for precise removal of damaged tissue at the surface, while the surrounding untreated skin supports quicker healing.
This fractional approach allows for both immediate improvement in skin texture and tone, along with long-term benefits as new collagen forms over the following months.
At NSDL, we often incorporate ProFractional Erbium into our laser stacking treatments. This involves combining the Erbium laser with other lasers, such as corrective lasers for pigmentation and redness, to deliver comprehensive results in a single session. This approach allows us to address multiple skin concerns at once, customizing the treatment intensity based on your individual needs.
What to expect during treatment
Your treatment will begin with a thorough cleansing of your skin. A topical anesthetic will be applied for 60 minutes prior to the procedure for added comfort.
You may feel a warming sensation as the ProFractional Erbium laser works to resurface your skin. The procedure generally lasts between 30-60 minutes, depending on the treatment area and intensity.
Pain is controlled during treatment and a zimmer cooling device may be used.
Recovery and Results
One of the key advantages of the ProFractional Erbium laser is that the downtime can be tailored to your desired results. For a more aggressive treatment, you may experience more downtime, while lighter treatments offer minimal recovery time.
Recovery: After treatment, you may notice redness and swelling. A sandpaper-like texture will develop as the skin heals, usually starting around days 3-5. You will be swollen for several days after this treatment. When you leave the office the skin may have serum and blood clots visible on it. This is normal after erbium and settles in time.
Results: Improvements in skin texture, clarity, and tone will be noticeable within a week, with full results developing over the next 3-4 weeks with complete outcome evident up to 6 months after the treatment. For optimal results, we recommend a series of 2-3 treatments, spaced greater than 8 weeks apart. Some patients may experience pinkness that lasts 4-6 weeks, which can be covered with makeup.
Aftercare Instructions
Proper aftercare is essential for achieving the best results with ProFractional Erbium. Here are your aftercare instructions:

Thermal Spring Water: Spray thermal spring water on your skin to soothe and hydrate at any time during recovery.

Sunscreen: Wait until after the peeling is complete before applying sunscreen to prevent irritation on freshly resurfaced skin.
Follow-up: Patients are encouraged to send photos on Day 1, 3, and 6 after treatment to monitor healing progress.
Follow-up
We like to see patients around Day 4-5 for an LED treatment to help with exfoliation and support healing. We also schedule a follow-up visit 4 weeks after your last treatment.
