Welcome to our Acne Clinic at NSDL

What is Acne?

Acne is a very common skin condition that is identified by the presence of comedones (blackhead and whiteheads), as well as papules (red bumps) and pustules (pus-filled spots). It can be mild, moderate or severe but no matter what type it is it can have a huge impact on self-esteem.

Acne can in some cases lead to lifelong scarring. Early intervention for acne is essential to help prevent permanent scarring.

Dermatologists are experts in the management of acne and will tailor your treatment to your individual needs. Acne is a complex disease and treatments that offer long term cure are better than some techniques that improve your acne for a short period only.

How we treat Acne at NSDL

Our dermatologists have many years experience in treating acne. To reduce spots and minimise the chances of scarring, options include:

Topical / Cosmeceutical Acne treatments

Non-prescription treatments

Non-prescription creams and lotions can help milder cases of acne, but can make the skin dry if used too often.

Prescription / Medical Acne treatments

  1. Prescription creams: Prescription creams prescribed by your dermatologist can help to unblock the pores and reduce the bacteria on the skin.

  2. Oral antibiotics: Oral antibiotics taken by mouth for several months may reduce the growth of bacteria on the skin.

  3. Hormonal medications: The contraceptive pill and other hormone treatments may be used to treat acne in some women.

  4. Oral retinoids/Vitamin A: Oral retinoids & vitamin A medications are very effective for the treatment of acne. They reduce the blockage of pores on the skin, making it more difficult for spots and infections to occur. They can only be prescribed by Dermatologists.

Laser treatments for Acne

AviClear Acne Laser 1726nm

We are proud to offer the Aviclear laser for treating acne, making us one of the few clinics in Australia with this innovative solution. This device effectively reduces oil production and minimises breakouts. It integrates seamlessly into a personalised acne treatment plan.

AviClear Acne Laser Treatment

The latest TGA-approved energy device for acne.

Northern Sydney Dermatology & Laser now has the groundbreaking laser for acne called the AviClear. This is the latest innovation in acne treatment that is transforming the way we approach the root cause of acne.

AviClear is not just any laser treatment device; it’s a pioneering solution that offers hope and results for those struggling with all forms of acne.

Why AviClear?

AviClear stands out as the first and original FDA and TGA-cleared energy device designed to treat mild, moderate and severe acne. Utilising a unique 1726 nm wavelength, the AviClear targets acne at its source by selectively targeting and suppressing the sebaceous gland. This process significantly reduces sebum production, a key factor in the development of acne, providing long-term clearance and relief.

What are the Benefits of AviClear?

  • Effective Results: clinical studies have shown significant improvement in acne symptoms, with patients experiencing a reduction in the frequency and severity of breakouts.

  • Non-Invasive: AviClear is a non-surgical treatment, making it a great option for those seeking an alternative to medications and topical treatments.

  • Safe for All Skin Types: The treatment is suitable for various skin types, ensuring that a wide range of patients can benefit from its effects.

  • Minimal Downtime: Patients can resume their normal activities almost immediately, with minimal side effects or discomfort.

Is AviClear right for me?

Aviclear is suitable for patients looking for a safe and effective alternative to traditional acne treatments, especially those who prefer to avoid medications or have found other treatments ineffective.

How many treatments will I need?

The treatment program consists of three 45-minute sessions, spaced about one month apart. You need to complete all three treatments for acne clearance.

When can I expect to see results?

While many patients start to see improvement within three months after their third AviClear treatment, some may notice results sooner. It’s important to note that the response to treatment can vary, with some patients experiencing improvement after six months. About 90% of patients have clearance at 9 months.
