Ageing Skin

Ageing skin is characterised by various changes due to intrinsic (natural ageing) and extrinsic factors (like sun exposure).

Common symptoms of ageing skin include:

  • Thinning and sagging: loss of collagen and elastin leads to a droopy appearance

  • Wrinkles: fine lines, especially around the eyes and mouth, become prominent

  • Dryness: reduced oil production results in rough, itchy skin

  • Age spots: increased pigmentation can cause dark spots on sun-exposed areas

  • Broken capillaries

  • Seborrhoeic keratoses: flat or raised spots that can occur not only in sun-exposed areas but also sun-protected areas

  • Cherry angiomas: red lumps that can occur on the face and the body

Treatment options for ageing skin include:

Prevention: regular sunscreen use, avoiding smoking, and maintaining a healthy diet.

A comprehensive skincare routine: this can be formulated alongside your dermatologist or dermal therapist according to your skin needs.

Procedures: chemical peels, energy-based devices, and aesthetic treatments for rejuvenation.

Your dermatologist will be able to assess your skin and create a treatment plan according to your concerns as well as keeping your lifestyle in mind.

Aesthetic solutions for Ageing Skin

To achieve a natural result your treatment needs to be bespoke to you. Your face will be carefully assessed both at rest and with your muscles contracted. Based on your individual goals of treatment we will advise you how you can achieve an effective result. Our a qualified and experienced Dermatologists and dermal clinicians will make sure your normal facial expressions are not adversely affected by treatment. You will feel more attractive and rejuvenated without looking false.

How long does it last?

  • Each treatment session takes less than 30 minutes.

  • Tiny syringes are used to precisely place the substance into the muscle.

  • A small scratch, rather than a sting is usually felt.

  • Local anaesthetic cream may be used to alleviate the sting felt during treatment if requested, but the large majority of people don’t feel this is required.

  • Immediately after treatment you will have slight pinkness that rapidly resolves and makeup can be applied immediately after. It is best to refrain from rubbing the area for several hours afterwards or performing vigorous exercise.

  • Immediately after the treatment you can go straight back to work and resume normal activities with the exception of that mentioned above.

You will notice the effect of the treatment gradually anywhere from 2 to 7 days after treatment. It will not interfere with your normal activities. Benefit lasts around 4 months. Studies demonstrate that when performed at regular intervals the duration of effect increases and amount needed in the future becomes less.

Are there any risks and side effects from the treatment?

Minor bruising at the treatment site may occur but can be covered with makeup. There are rare short lived potential site-specific problems (such as eyelid or eyebrow droop) but there are no permanent side effects from this treatment. This is a safe treatment and is reversible. The treatment has been used in the medical industry for over 4 decades. No adverse long-term problems have been reported.

Why see a Dermatologist for ageing skin treatments?

Dermatologists are trained in facial anatomy and all things skin, and can complement your treatment to ensure you achieve a globally enhanced outcome. Beyond this, the added benefit of seeing a dermatologist is that they can answer your skin questions. Seldom do we do a treatment without someone asking us about a bump, lump, or mole or asking advice how to treat their skin.

If you are looking for a safe medically trained specialist & experienced provider knowledgable in facial anatomy and skin and want a globally improved appearance then then seeking care under a dermatologist is helpful.
