VBeam Perfecta® Pulsed Dye Laser

The VBeam Perfecta laser is a pulsed dye laser system that emits laser energy at a wavelength of 595 nm, targeting the haemoglobin in blood vessels while sparing surrounding tissues. This technology utilizes “selective photothermolysis”, where the laser energy is absorbed by blood vessels, converting it to heat and causing coagulation without damaging nearby skin.

What can Vbeam treat?

The system is primarily used for treating vascular lesions, such as rosacea, facial redness, broken capillaries, spider naevi, angiomas and vascular birthmarks, and is known for its safety and effectiveness across various skin types.

What does the treatment involve?

Depending on what we are treating, anywhere from 1-5 treatments will be required, separated by 4-6 weeks, with the exception of vascular birthmarks (eg, port wine stains), which can require 4-8 treatments.

As blood vessels do tend to regrow, for certain conditions such as rosacea, you will likely require maintenance treatments every 6-12 months.

Numbing cream is not used for this treatment as it constricts the blood vessels and removes our target. We do have other methods of making the treatment more comfortable for you.

Treatments can take anywhere from just a few minutes to up to 30 minutes depending on the area being treated. Eye protection is used. The laser feels like a rubber-band flick against the skin. You will also feel a stream of cool air just prior to the laser pulse.

You can expect the skin to be more red straight afterwards. This usually settles within a few hours. If we are treating angiomas or vascular birthmarks, there will likely be bruising but you will be informed of this prior to the treatment.

Aftercare involves application of ice to the affected area on and off for the rest of that day. It is advised to sleep elevated (on two pillows) to reduce the risk of swelling. Provided there is no swelling or bruising, you can usually return to your usual activities within 24 hours. As we are not breaking the skin, makeup can be applied immediately if desired.
